  • Flex Band Stretching 101

My good friend Dave with www.flexbandtraining.com has sent me over a great article on how to stretch with flex bands. Actually what we did was begged Dave to send us over all 3 articles he had on the subject and we made it into a ebook for you to download.

For those of you who are not currently training with bands let me tell you that you dont know what your missing.

Take a moment and visit Daves site and learn how you can incorporate the bands into your current training programs.

    DVD of the Month Feedback

Just finished watching all of DVDs 2 and 3. I really liked the interesting training variations on DVD 3 and the instructional sections. Coming from a jiujitsu background, I would like to see some basic solo wrestling drills(I think they call them sit outs and hip heists, and granby rolls)(maybe there are instructionals on these already, but I don't know where to look) I was able to watch the NCAA Finals this weekend and the 160 and 170 pound guys just had such great ground movement, doing rolls and stuff that I have never seen in jiujitsu, I would really like to find out how to develop that.

The DVDs keep getting better, and I really enjoy them. thanks for the great product and hardwork so I don't have to work quite so hard. Thanks, Jason

    Mike,
Just finished DVD 2 and you must be kidding, tossing Kettlebells? Now your really taking this training to a new level. I tried the high rep tosses the other day with a teammate and it worked my grip, legs, traps, lower back, you name it was WORKED. Thanks again for an awesome product. Chris

    Coach Mike,
Loved DVD # 3s wrestling/grappling take down section. I didnt ever think that takedowns could be done so easy but after watching your instruction I have already started to improve a great deal. Please keep them coming. Peter

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Like I said on DVD # 2 we are taking your questions and requests and putting them into action so please keep them coming. You can email me at mike@grapplersgym.com with your feedback

Tip of the Week: Use of Psychology in Contest

    1. Unconsciously, as you become a better player, the confidence you have in yourself shows to your opponent. Without making any visible effort, your assurance is apparent.

    2. Deliberately cultivate the outward mannerisms of confidence and you will see that your opponent will react differently to you than if you give him signals that tell him you are not sure of yourself or of your ability. Even if you feel outclassed, dont show it. Avoid making the facial expressions which indicate fear, apology or fatigue.

No matter how important the contest is or what is at stake degree promotion, trophy, or the honor of your team you must not allow yourself to become angry with an opponent. Anger consumes energy and interferes with your ability to plan sensibly. If you encounter an angry opponent, do not react to him, unless it is to smile. An angry opponent is already at a disadvantage and if you appear calm and pleasant, it will further upset his equilibrium.

Exercise of the Week: Bottom to Top Partner lift

For those of you who are looking for something new that works your total body give this hard core lift a try. The trick is to start off with someone lighter than you until you get confortable with the lift then move into your bodyweight.

Its important when you start the lift to get a good tight hold on your partner to prevent undue strain on your lower back.

Perform this exercise 3-5 times then switch with your partner. Rest for 2 Minutes and repeat as needed.

    Total body training

Looking for a great total body workout? Give this exercise a try. Now when working with your training partner dont throw them like Karelin does in this video as the object is simply to get them off the mat and flip them over and land them back on their feet again.

As with the bottom to top you can do this for 3-5 reps.

Grapplers Gym in Talks to Train James Thompson

We are proud to announce that we now are in talks to start training with James Thompson who competes in the Pride Fighting Championships.

As those of you who watch pride know James is a huge man standing 6'5 and 264lbs. We look forward to training with James in the near future and will keep you up to date say to his arrival for those of you who wish to maybe come and train with us.

    New High Intensity Training Manual

I want to tell you about a new training manual that we are putting the finishing touches on right now.
This training manual is going to focus on high intensity training for grapplers. As you know from my articles and training programs I like to train with high reps and high intensity and the results speak for themselves. These are the same programs that we are using with our grapplers and fighters from all over the world.

Keep checking in with us and reading your newsletter because we will be offering a newsletter only sale for the first week when its completed so you wont want to miss that.
