  • Wrestling Big Bag Game

Similar to the Afghani game with the dead goat carcass, played on horseback. This game uses large canvas bags filled with gravel. Large wrestlers may use a 150lb bag, and small wrestlers use a 100lb bag. Place the bag in the middle of the wrestling mat. Two guys stand on the outside opposite ends of the circle. At the signal, both guys head for the bag. The goal is for them to use ANY means possible, (within the rules of wrestling), to get the bag to the opposite end of the circle from which they started. They will therefore need to wrestle the other guy WHILE dragging the bag. It is an extremely challenging game. More than two may play also! Teams of four or six players may square off at once. It should be cautioned not to allow players with too much weight difference on the mat, as a safety measure. This game is a lot of fun to watch, and often more fun than watching the wrestling match itself!

    Flexband Group Training

Great group training article from Dave Schmitz utilizing flexbands.

    New Video Clips Loaded

Here is a list of some of the newest video clips that have been loaded to grapplersgym.com in the last two weeks.

    • Single Leg Takedown - Partner Lift Exercise
    • Triangle Choke Training - 15 minutes of great instruction
    • Counter to Hip Tosses
    • Juji Gatame - Cross arm lock
    • Calf Crush Training technique
    • Step Through and Throw- Sombo Training

Grapplers Gym Workout of the Week - Wheelbarrow Training

Ok this weeks training tip gets you out of the gym and into the yard. Visit your local home depot, pick up a wheelbarrow, load it up and start training. This is a great total body workout that will really work your grip and overall conditioning.

Here is your workout. Mark off a section that you can walk across safetly approx 20-30yards long. Load your wheelbarrow with weights and start walking. Walk down and back, unload the weights piece by piece (dont cheat by dumping the load). Rest for 1 minute and repeat until 20 minutes is completed.

If you dont have weight, rocks, dirt, or some type of training device then get a partner to sit inside the barrow. Becarefull not to dump/drop your partner as someone may become injured.

Jump Rope Training for Grapplers 1

Here is a great cardio workout using just a jump rope and your bodyweight. If you find yourself unable to perform each exercise increase your rest period to 1 minute.

New Wrestling Training Videos for Kids

Coach Dave Mills has released a brand new training series called Youth Wrestling by the Numbers 1,2,3. There are 3 dvds covering takedowns, pinning, and escapes and reversals.

In a first of its kind video series....Coaches, parents, and most importantly YOUTH wrestlers will be able to quickly learn each technique. NCWA two-time National Coach of the Year Dave Mills breaks down each move using numbered steps that are highlighted in text on screen....making each move as easy to learn as 1,2,3!! Parents, if you have never wrestled a day in your life, you can now help your wrestler achieve success one step at a time
