  • Developing Power in the Muay Thai Round kick

It is generally accepted by those "in the know" that the Muay Thai round kick is the most devastating kick in the martial arts. Ribs, arms, and even leg bones have been broken by Thai Boxers in the ring. Many people have asked, "How is so much power generated by a single blow?"

Hill Training for Power and Anaerobic Endurance

Here is a great workout for those of you who are looking to build lower body power and endurance. Hill running has been proven to be one of the best methods for building power and anaerobic endurance.

    1.Uphill running 80 yards x 8 to 10 sets - jogging back in 35 seconds

    2.Uphill alternate bounding 60 yards x 6 sets - jogging back in 20 seconds

    3.Uphill frog jumps, 40 yards x 4 sets - walk back 30- 40 seconds

10 Minute Jog for lactic acid flush

Grapplers Gym to Donate Training Equipment

For those of you who wonder what we do with the subscription fees for grapplersgym.com I wanted to pass this along to you.

We have been contacted by a high school in Tennessee that is in need of some training equipment. As you know Grapplers Gym has always been about the advancement of our great sport so we have agreed to donate $500.00 worth of equipment to the school to help them get started.

    Battling Ropes Snapdown Drill

Great drill for blasting your core and conditioning at the same time. Start off with some slack in the ropes to allow for a left/right snap. As you shift positions you will find that the rope will pull in different directions as seen by my rear foot moving to steady my body

Do this drill 20 seconds on / 10 seconds rest...

    Active Recovery

This is the fastest way to eliminate waste products after exercise. A great tip from Coach Istvan Javorek is to going on a light jog after your workouts. You see during the first 10 minutes of continuous jogging, 60 percent of lactic acid is removed from your system. An additional 26 percent is removed between 10 and 20 minutes. Why is this important? Because it will allow you to not only flush out your system but will allow you to recover faster which will allow for more frequent training sessions. The faster you can get waste out of your system the better.

    Your Daily Training Cycles

When should I train? That's a great questions but it's one that only you can answer. See there is an optimum time for all of us to train. Research has shown that during the day your performance can vary by as much as 10-30%. This is important if you're a fighter who is preparing for an upcoming fight.
